I am getting the error message, "Error: Please install gdal to enable raster reproduction suport."

I am running Blender version 2.92 with the GIS app. I want to import Google information into blender and create DXF files of the terrain model for importation into Carlson Survey software. Then I can make contour maps with images of buildings and etc. for my work laying out model rail roads. I is a hobby. I'm retired. I want them in the current WGS84 LatLon so that they come into the Survey Cadd software, in state plane coordinates.

Google maps images are served in the Web Mercator projection and the basemaps operator cannot reproject raster data without the help of GDAL library. That's why the error message request you to install GDAL.

However is not a good idea to work with angular coordinates (longitude/latitude) in Blender : https://github.com/domlysz/BlenderGIS/wiki/FAQ#why-after-the-import-of-my-data-the-resulting-mesh-is-extremely-small-on-x-and-y-axis-but-seems-correct-on-z-axis-

I want to get accurate data in CLIFORNIA ZONE 5 LAMBERT GRID. Is there a way to do this? I am trying to model the BNSF RR yard in Bakersfield CA. I want to get contours in Feet. I know how to convert the data after it is imported into AutoCAD with a DXF file. I think I can do the conversion directly in Blender before it is exported in a DXF. I read the page referenced in my email and it talks about some problem with distortion if you use Web Mercader method to generate a model from Google earth. I am not sure I understand the math behind that discussion. Is Web Mercader represented by a sphere? The Lambert projection is represented by a cone and the California Zones are pretty good at making a flat enough projection that within the zone there is very little distortion. I am familiar with the Traverse Mercader which is a cylindrical projection but not the Web Mercader. Also, I am running into trouble getting the layers to stay separate in the export using the DXF export. Can you help me with that? The DTM or Triangle file is in the 0 layer along with all the Culture (Building linework, Street linework and RR track lines) that was imported to the project in Blender.

I think I made a mistake when I pushed the close Subject button. I am not satisfied this issue should be closed.

I wonder if the angular coordinates are a problem since my AutoCAD converts WCS84 to lambert grid.

I have the same problem. Did you resolve it?

I use Carlson Survey software and import data from Google Earth using KMZ files. Carlson seems to unscramble the mathematical mess re. Web Mercator to California State Plane coordinates pretty well and I can convert my points back to KMZ files and import them into Google Earth without using Blender. The problem lies when I want real elevations.
