Functionality of physical objects/products augmented by software. Software is compiled, i.e. obfuscated, such that owner can has to trust (Solution: open source)
Functionality often augmented by code running on an other machine as well, i.e. beyond trust boundaries. (Solution: open source + trusted computing / remote attestation)
Objects generate data. Either on their own or in collaboration with human and other objects. Data is a bit like atomic material. It can be used for benefit but it is hard to get rid of the waste. If data leaves trust boundaries there in way to get it back.
Who owns objects in the future? Do individuals want to own stuff? Are they happy with relying on TTPs and usage rights only? Can security and privacy be preserved if we steer towards centralized ownership?
What are alternative models? Cooperative and fluid ownership? How can we implement these models? Do we need TTPs? Do we need decentralized TTPs like blockchains?
