Hey Phil,

Can you introduce Hostelworld Group and talk a it about what your responsibilities?

Hi,

Firstly, incredibly sorry for the delay in my response. Its been a VERY busy time for me.

So, as the title reads I'm Philip Bannon from Hostelworld and I run our technology office based in Porto.

Firstly a little bit about Hostelworld.....

Hostelworld, is the largest online hostel-booking platform sparking social experiences, inspires passionate travellers to see the world, meet new people and come back with extraordinary stories to tell.

My responsibilities? Well that would be a very long list but to sum it up....I moved to Porto last April to build a technology centre of excellence for the company. This pretty much ranged from finding a building, designing the interior and then hiring 40+ people. Now that's all done I'm responsible for all the development (including QA, design etc) the comes out of the office.

Hey @philipbannon , no worries. Glad to hear from you. :) Let's start from the top. How to hire so many people? What was your strategy and what's the structure you were aiming for? Did you hire for cultural fit?
