I verified that items from the 2/27/14 list are either completed or obsolete. Here is a new list of changes for the web site:
GitHub just changed my numbering in the previous comment--I had intended to start the numbering from 10 so we wouldn't confuse the items...oh well.
Moved this open item from Issue #1.
Include Creative Commons link: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/
The link text should be "Content is available under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike."
Should become part of the footer for every web page.
I've uploaded the LMU symposium and 402 presentations to slideshare. I'd like to use these as news items on the news page and also on the publications page.
Text for News page (list these in reverse chronological order):
May 8, 2014 Britain Southwick gives a presentation about GRNsight at the Loyola Marymount University CMSI 402 Senior Project Presentations event. Click here to view slides. [The link can either go to slideshare at http://www.slideshare.net/GRNsight/southwick-britain-grnsightcmsi402presentation20140508 or to our publications page where we embed the presentation with the code
] March 29, 2014 Britain Southwick and Nicole Anguiano give a presentation about GRNsight at the Loyola Marymount University Undergraduate Research Symposium. Click here to view slides. [The link can either go to slideshare http://www.slideshare.net/GRNsight/southwick-anguiano-lmusymposiumpresentation20140329 or to our publications page where we will have an embed code to show the slides ] On the Publications page please do the following: - Change the heading from "Abstracts" to "Presentations" - Leave the abstract that is there as is, but remove the link to the wiki page. Create a header for Loyola Marymount University Undergraduate Research Symposium. Put the date, March 29, 2014, then put the title, authors, and abstract, then embed the presentation slides with the code above. - Create a second header for Loyola Marymount University CMSI 402 Senior Project Presentations. Put the date, May 8, 2014, then put the title and then embed the presentation slides with the code above. If for some reason we don't want to embed the presentation, just link to the Slideshare site.I believe each of the 6 items from 6/9/14 is now done. In order to make the LMU logo flush with both the top and the bottom, I enlarged the logo slightly, but it's pretty easy to shrink it back down if necessary. I believe everything else is done as well, with the exception of entering the date that the server began running into the news page. I added the Creative Commons link to the footer of each page, added the news to the News page, and revised the publications page.
I've gone through to verify that changes are completed and here are some final tweaks:
If there is no built-in way to change the default title (I would look at the GitHub Pages documentation for that), a little jQuery can do the trick:
$("title").text("(put desired title here)");
But I’d do that only as a last resort, if GitHub Pages turns out to not have a sanctioned method for customizing the title.
The 402 presentation is not yet posted on the Publications page. Please do it the same way that you did the LMU symposium slides. Thanks.
For best possible quality, use EPS files from http://www.lmu.edu/about/services/identity/The_LMU_Logo.htm. Preview can open these and export in a way where you can control the resolution. Guideline is to produce an image with twice the dimensions of the target size. See how that looks when scaled by the browser; compare to another image with precisely the target resolution. If it isn't clear which is better, share and we can pick one.
I've upped the resolution of the LMU Logo. To accommodate the higher-resolution image without it looking funny, I increased the width of the image on the page, though the height is the same. I tried comparing an image of twice the dimensions of the target size with an image that was exactly the target size, and they looked very similar to me. Currently the pages are using the higher resolution image, but I'll post an image of each one below. I also pushed down the text that was along the side of the LMU logo so that it was in line with the words "Loyola Marymount University" in the logo. Let me know if it should be moved somewhere else.
Here's the image that was shrunk down to the target size:
And here's the one that is exactly the target size:
With regard to the resolution of the logo--the one you have "live" on the web site looks OK to me. The two you put in your comment are not really a fair comparison because they don't scale when I zoom into the page like they do are the real web site, although I do think the top one is slightly better.
With regard to the alignment of the tagline, I realize I wasn't clear--I meant that the bottom of the third line of text should align with the bottom of either "University" the other tagline or both. so that would mean that it needs to shift up a little from where you have it now.
Do you want me to upload the other image to one of the pages for a more proper comparison?
I moved up the tagline so it aligns with the bottom of "university". Let me know if it looks better now.
I guess so, might as well.
Tagline looks good.
I uploaded the other image onto the beta page for comparison purposes.
The one on the main home page looks better than the one on the beta page. So, when you've replaced the one on the beta page, you can close this issue.
I changed the image back over, so I'll close this one up.
Here are some initial comments on content on the web site that needs to be added/edited.
