8 months ago There's confusion here about the English term "object", the use of "object" here is similar to the use of "object" in, say, "object of inquiry". I agree that there is potential confusion though. The issue is that "objective" also can be confused for something else, as in "this is not very objective". Either way, I think I will change it to "purpose, aim, object" instead. Thank you!
目的 is said to be "object, purpose", while jisho says "purpose; goal; aim; objective; intention" it seems to be object because 目的語 is used for talking about the grammatical object, but it doesn't seem very clear from the card itself. I've personally corrected it to "purpose, objective, object" (being too afraid to add 'object (grammar)' in case (grammar) becomes a weird mnemonic crook in my brain for the word, though that might just be a me thing)
I understand that we mostly should get words' meanings from what they mean in the contexts they're in, but this just seems like a weird outlier between all the cleanup Of course maybe I'm the one misunderstanding it overall, but looking at the jisho sentence examples, it seems like its main use is for purpose, and that in what context it is 'object' isn't communicated very well
