Any chance for Japanese support? #42

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Switch language to Japanese
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Japanese keyboard layout and word prediction, Kanji support

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
None yet, Android 2.2. 2.3, 3.0, 3.0.1

Please provide any additional information below.
Would be great if the keyboard would support Japanese layout, Kanji input, word
prediction like the smartkeyboard. Would pay for this, as the 5 rows with
number keys is great!

Sorry, supporting Kanji would require very major changes to the keyboard code,
and considering the very limited amount of time I have available to work on it
I'm very unlikely to be able to do so in the foreseeable future.

It would be fairly easy to do a Hiragana+Katakana-only layout, but I assume
that would be mostly useless for Japanese speakers without Kanji support.

Howdy! I'm a hacker new to the Android world. As it happens, I am also
Japanese-English bilingual and need an awesome Japanese input method.

If you're willing to help me get up and running as a contributor to the
Hacker's Keyboard code--I would happily put the time in to get Japanese input
working.
