Touchscreen navigation buttons. #51

Once a book is playing ths screen is for 98% black.
The gestures to navigate work fine but you have to know them.

First, thanks foor all your efforts to create this app.

I have the following question.
Why not add standard audio navigation buttons on the touchscreen.
- Play/Pauze
- Fastforward
- Rewind
- Level up
- Level down
- Section up
- Section down

A vissible representation of levels and sections ( like a directory tree )
which is clickable for direct access to a chapter or a paragraph would also be
very nice.

These changes to the user interface would be very usefull to first time users
and dyslectic children.

Reinier Gielen

Reiner,
Firstly sorry for not replying for 4 weeks, my day job has consumed all my
available time despite my best intentions to work on this project :(

I agree your suggestions would be useful for users who can see well. The
current user interface is written primarily to work well for blind users, or
users with severe visual impairments. My original co-developer is blind and
encouraged me to start this project :)

I envisaged the application would include a variety of user-interfaces that
would suit the specific needs of various users e.g. for users who are dyslexic.
However we currently only have one user-interface. As I'm currently the only
developer (and as you can tell only able to work on the project from time to
time).

The menu I plan to add soon, and is covered in the following issue
http://code.google.com/p/android-daisy-epub-reader/issues/detail?id=49

The user-interface I'd like to add later.

I'll accept and park your suggestion until either I, or ideally another
developer, has the time to create the UI you desire. I've set the priority to
low, not because I don't value it, but because I want to get various other
capabilities completed first.

Hello Julian,

Thanks for your reply.
I am quit familiar with the time issues you face. And all you do is appriciated.
I think this is the only android app for daisy-books and therefore very
important.

I recently managed to get the secondary school where my daughter is going to
initiate a pilot project where dyslectic children are allowed to use their
smartphone with your app in the classroom.
So keep up the good work.

As it happens I am a programmer with 20 years of experiance, but I am new to
java and android. Since I have to atudy java anyway I will have a go at an
additional UI.
As soon as I have something presentable I will send you the code for evaluation.
For now I first have to check out the project sourcecode, and I also have a
lack of spare time.

Looking forward to new release,

regards,

Reinier
