Talk with @terrcin about organising wellrailed, the Wellington monthly Rails meetup, and what goes into organising a rails camp?

Panel: @jamesotron @parndt @hmaddocks @pat @ootoovak. Guest: @terrcin

tuttinator commented 11 years ago

+1 and generally interested in what the Auckland meetup could do better

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

@tuttinator do you have any questions you'd like asked?

tuttinator commented 10 years ago

A few I can think of:

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Ta. Updated.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Tentative recording time for this episode: http://permatime.com/Pacific/Auckland/2013-11-29/11:00

Can you all please confirm your availability for this date?

terrcin commented 10 years ago

I've got a meeting that conflicts with. can do from 11:30. Also how long do these normally go for?

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

It's usually around 90 minutes including the pre and post call banter.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

sorry. accidentally clicked "close and comment" grr!

halorgium commented 10 years ago

Tis Thanksgiving over in the states. I'm gonna bow out of this one to eat much food! :chicken:

Enjoy!

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Okay, cool. Who else is going to be present? @parndt @awagener @hmaddocks ?

parndt commented 10 years ago

I'll be around!

ghost commented 10 years ago

I'll be here

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Do we want to sub someone in to replace @halorgium?

parndt commented 10 years ago

This one seems right up the alley of @pat

pat commented 10 years ago

As a panelist or as a guest?

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

take your pick :)

pat commented 10 years ago

My concern is that if the focus is (rightly) on @terrcin, I may get in the way... I can be overly opinionated at times. But given you're often comparing against Australia, I guess I could be the voice from that side of the Tasman?

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Sounds good. Let's put you down as a panelist. This means you ask questions, instead of answering them FYI :)

terrcin commented 10 years ago

Feck, that means I'm gonna have to be prepared now.

terrcin commented 10 years ago

Did we finalise the time?

pat commented 10 years ago

Maybe I'll ask questions and then answer them. I think the label is 'politician' ;)

11:30 NZ / 09:30 AEDT next Friday works for me.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

11:30/9:30 works for me. Everyone else?

parndt commented 10 years ago

So to be clear that's 11:30 NZ time that @pat is suggesting, on the 29th November?

terrcin commented 10 years ago

yup to 11:30 on the 29th.

awagener commented 10 years ago

I'll be around, in Germany. 11.30 works, would 11 or 10.30 be possible? (Germany is 12 hours behind NZ time).

terrcin commented 10 years ago

Given it's for 90 minutes I can't start earlier than that, unless you guys want to start at 8:30am NZST. That makes it hard from Aussy then though...

awagener commented 10 years ago

Well, it's normally an hour (11.30 - 12.30) plus a short while before and a variable length after, I believe? But 11.30 is workable - I can just sleep in the next day. We're staying with a friend, so I won't be in a hotel room and I'll have a separate room I can call in from. 11.30 probably works better than 8.30 for me anyway - I can be social with our hosts and then record later.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

I usually say 90 minutes because we need to do about 15 minutes of banter at each end :)

parndt commented 10 years ago

No, you hang up!

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

the pre-call is kind of necessary in order to make sure that everyone's audio quality is good, and that they're warmed up, etc. I agree the post-call is usually just monkeying around.

awagener commented 10 years ago

I was just trying to figure out if the 15 min before is at 11.30 or 11.15 - I was assuming 11.15 for 11.30 recording?

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Yeah, so 11:15 for 11:30 start.

terrcin commented 10 years ago

Unfortunately I'm not available until 11:30.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Well, we probably only need around 5 minutes of pre-call. Just gives us time to make sure that everything works okay. Let's just all get on the call at 11:30 and start at around 11:40?

awagener commented 10 years ago

Works for me (in for a penny, in for a pound, right?)

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

That's the spirit!

pat commented 10 years ago

In my calendar :)

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

G+ event posted. Note that I need @pat to DM me his G+ account address before the show starts, so that I can invite him to the Hangout.

pat commented 10 years ago

Same as my email address - pat@freelancing-gods.com

parndt commented 10 years ago

The invitation was for 11:45, I thought we were starting at 11:30? I have a fairly tight schedule on Friday.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

@parndt see: https://github.com/dopodcast/dopodcast.github.io/issues/9#issuecomment-28834963 @pat thanks.

awagener commented 10 years ago

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to bow out for the day. Turns out there's construction at the house here, and the internet is hotspotted off an iPad - on edge! So I don't fancy my chances on an audio call. Sorry. I was really looking forward to this one too! Have a great recording.

halorgium commented 10 years ago

We might listen to this from the Turkey table. :chicken:

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

I've asked @ootoovak if he can cover for you Amanda. We'll see.

Thanks for letting us know.

Just because it wasn't discussed this morning and may be of interest: Yehuda visited Melbourne/Sydney as a guest of Ninefold (I'm pretty sure they paid for flights and hotels), not because he wanted to come and check out the local Ruby/JS scenes. I wouldn't treat it as much of a benchmark.

jimsynz commented 10 years ago

Editing is taking a long time. Mainly because I'm really quite sick. Hopefully finished in the next couple of days.

awagener commented 10 years ago

Sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon. :(

ootoovak commented 10 years ago

Yeah, get better soon!
