Talk with @terrcin about organising wellrailed, the Wellington monthly Rails meetup, and what goes into organising a rails camp?

[x] how do you cater for a range of skill levels, allowing beginners to feel welcome joining the community and also keeping things interesting for more advanced members?
[x] legitimately, where do you find the time?
[x] do you focus on mostly Rails, or more broadly Ruby?
[x] Is the interest in other projects in the Ruby ecosystem, or is it an interest grown around employment-required knowledge of Rails? Has there been a shift?
[ ] Australia has Ruby Australia and relatively large-scale Meetup / event / Railscamps sponsorship, and shown the ability to run conferences, etc, what should we / could be doing to bolster these events?
[ ] Yehuda Katz went to Sydney and Melbourne, is it a useful benchmark to think about how we can make the NZ community interesting enough to warrant a visit?

[ ] should we talk about New Zealand built open source projects / projects Kiwis have been involved in more?
[x] How do we support diversity in the community? Do we have a code-of-conduct?

A few I can think of:

My concern is that if the focus is (rightly) on @terrcin, I may get in the way... I can be overly opinionated at times. But given you're often comparing against Australia, I guess I could be the voice from that side of the Tasman?

I'll be around, in Germany. 11.30 works, would 11 or 10.30 be possible? (Germany is 12 hours behind NZ time).

Given it's for 90 minutes I can't start earlier than that, unless you guys want to start at 8:30am NZST. That makes it hard from Aussy then though...

Well, it's normally an hour (11.30 - 12.30) plus a short while before and a variable length after, I believe? But 11.30 is workable - I can just sleep in the next day. We're staying with a friend, so I won't be in a hotel room and I'll have a separate room I can call in from. 11.30 probably works better than 8.30 for me anyway - I can be social with our hosts and then record later.

I usually say 90 minutes because we need to do about 15 minutes of banter at each end :)

the pre-call is kind of necessary in order to make sure that everyone's audio quality is good, and that they're warmed up, etc. I agree the post-call is usually just monkeying around.

I was just trying to figure out if the 15 min before is at 11.30 or 11.15 - I was assuming 11.15 for 11.30 recording?

Well, we probably only need around 5 minutes of pre-call. Just gives us time to make sure that everything works okay. Let's just all get on the call at 11:30 and start at around 11:40?

Just because it wasn't discussed this morning and may be of interest: Yehuda visited Melbourne/Sydney as a guest of Ninefold (I'm pretty sure they paid for flights and hotels), not because he wanted to come and check out the local Ruby/JS scenes. I wouldn't treat it as much of a benchmark.
