The return code of Virtual Desktop is the internal number that it uses to process multiple commands one after the other. As such, creating a new window returns the id of that window, not 0, even if it is successful. Same thing with closing the desktop.
The virtual desktop ids are just indices, so if you close a project that was in virtual desktop number 2, the number 3 virtual desktop becomes the new number 2, but it won't be updated in the program itself.
