Erasing process failed, operation failed, couldnt mount disk -69842

This copy of the install MacOS Catalina application is damaged and cant be used to install mac OS.

Tried three times, and out of ideas, following steps in video carefully, but formatting the drive unsucceful, so formatted it before hand. Still problems, says copy of install is damaged. Any guidance? thanks

application is damaged and cant be used to install mac OS.

Usually that happens when you try to install Old OSX in the Future, All OSX have a TimeB0mb. the trick is to disconnect from internet, manually set clock date a few years back "to compatible dates".

see wikipedia for compatible dates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS_Catalina

To be Honest... IF You dont need specific Apple Only software like Avid or Adobe...

is better to install pearOS or Kubuntu 21.10 or AVLinux MX

Large companies are a Nightmare, All have Programed Obsolescence and other Not so Nice Policies... You dont have the right to repair, You dont have the right to upgrade the machine, You dont own your software You dont own your machine, you dont own your information, you are banned on social networks, banned everywhere, etc...

https://archive.org/details/pearOS_Monterey_64bit-12-beta-2021.07.01 https://archive.org/details/pearos_archive

The New pearOS Nicec0re is a big change from Debian to Arch Linux, its very raw/coarse... pearOS Monterey 07.01 is the Peak of Debian Development, very nice.

im running OSX Catalina vs. Kubuntu 21.10 vs. pearOS

Anyway... Ext4 file system is standard in Linux, but is Not nice for large HDDs 18TB, those require XFS or maybe Btrfs. XFS was developed by Silicon Graphics IRIX OS. Btrfs is designed by Oracle.

if want perfect file compatibility with Apple APFS & HFS+ file systems, buy Paragon drivers for Linux, the Free Linux HFS+ and NTFS drivers are Raw. The worse is ExFAT "The only free file system compatible between Windows, OSX and Linux".

https://www.paragon-software.com/home/apfs-linux/ https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-linux-professional/

if want Office Stuff Word, Calc. Oracle Apache Open Office, https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html or LibreOffice or KOffice.

if need to print or scan: Epson has nice drivers for Linux. ink printers need to clean the heads when Not used often with the Red Triangle Button. to remove Ink clots on the head.

InkScape = CorelDraw / Adobe Ilustrator Gimp = Photoshop Audacity = Adobe Audition, etc... Davinci Resolve works in Linux, OSX and Windows,

The Problem with MacPro5,1 2012 is that does Not allow to install OSX SnowLeopard 10.6.8 required if you want to use old PowerPC software from Mac Garden and MacResitory, with the Rosetta v1 emulator.

MacPro5,1 2010 works Ok, and its the same HW. Apple doing Apple stuff.

You need to install OSX HighSierra, then OSX Mojave because MacPro5,1 require Firmware Upgrade to 144.00000 "Better USB keyboard support, NVMe Boot, etc..." then install Catalina from High Sierra HDD to another HDD.

IF your FirmWare is 144.00000 No need to install Mojave.

Windows 10 and W11 damage the Mac Firmware, requires a software called Twocanoes WinClone. i think latest build of Win8.1x64 is much better, has EDG,E etc...

Also requires a Video card with Mac EFI Boot screen. macvidcards.com HD 7950 minimum. R9 290 R9 390 RX 480 RX 580 Frontier Edition Vega 56 & 64 GTX Titan 6GB does Not work as well as AMD iin OSX. some workstation GPUs FireGL W9100 Wx9000 WX9100, maybe.. Radeon VII and 5700XT does Not work in OSX HighSierra. etc...

If want Dark Apple Boot Screen: https://github.com/w0lfschild/app_updates/tree/master/DarkBoot https://github.com/w0lfschild/DarkBoot

I had the same problem just now (June 2022), with very similar hardware (very old Mac Pro with upgraded graphic card to get Metal compatibility). Newest Catalina patcher (1.4.4), with the Catalina installer it downloaded.

The date setting trick did not work.

The trick of removing one of the plist files inside the installer also did not work.

What did work, and maybe this is one for the FAQ:

  1. Clear the NVRAM/PRAM/etc (restart with command-option-P-R, hold until you get the second startup sound)
  2. Disable SIP (reboot into recovery mode with command-R, open a terminal, csrutil disable)
  3. Now boot into the prepared installer USB stick.

@juanpc2018 stop ranting everywhere! If you love old software, buy old hardware! You don't need to run, like, Snow Leopard on an M1. Use UTM.

MacOS doesn't have a time bomb as an anti-consumer measure. I happily use older versions on some macs (even though my newer Macs run the latest MacOS)

And the patcher is not needed for MP5,1 (2012)

If he downloaded the installer recently, the 082419 bug won't affect him. And couldn't mount drive? Either a damaged installer or a damaged internal HDD/SSD drive.
