An exception "SqlException: Cannot open database "aspnet-xxxx" requested by the login." thrown when register a new user for the 7.0 web InAuth project. #40994

Installation steps

  1. Download and install latest main build from VS build.
  2. Download and install latest .NET 7.0 Preview 3 SDK from branch"main(7.0.x Runtime)" in https://github.com/dotnet/installer
  3. Modify your NuGet.config to apply 7.0 Feed: https://pkgs.dev.azure.com/dnceng/public/_packaging/dotnet7/nuget/v3/index.json

Repro Steps

  1. Open VS, log in to your account.
  2. Create a new project > ASP.NET Core Web App > Next > Next, select .Net 7.0 as target framework, select "Individual account" as Auth Type > Create
  3. F5 to run the project
  4. After the website loaded successfully, click Register to register a new user

ACTUAL

we get an InvalidOperationException instead. Even though one can by-pass this exception by applying migrations externally using command-line or VS tooling, the error is not clear enough anymore and the experience is not as clean compared to 6.0. image

EXPECTED

we had a fairly clean experience where the ‘Apply Migrations’ button will show up and the user could click that button and refresh the page. image

It looks like this PR for 6.0-rc2 never made it into main.
