The log is not quite descriptive here. Could you try creating a workspace from azure portal and see if you are able to create one or get a better error message.

Here's an instruction to create a workspace https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/machine-learning/how-to-manage-workspace

dunion commented 4 years ago

I have followed your instructions I still get the errors. I have three accounts I can try from work/home.

I do not have the option of ‘basic’ only enterprise apparently for workspace. I am not sure why but maybe my MSDN/Visual studio Universal version license is doing that.

I only get that stack trace and no useful information other than that it fails.

This is via my main work credential for Visual Studio Enterprise:

[cid:image001.png@01D62B10.4DF066C0]

The client 'juniond@jci.com' with object id 'ba709735-e1d7-4059-baca-ea123400e5b5' does not have authorization to perform action 'Microsoft.Resources/subscriptions/resourcegroups/write' over scope '/subscriptions/64a50daa-16fd-48c0-95cd-5317e14fe14d/resourcegroups/mbimage1' or the scope is invalid. Then I use my older credential I used to use for home that is probably my linked to last year’s work Visual studio enterprise license but not sure any more. This takes longer to fail with a different Message

But despite what it says in the error, there is no obvious information at the location they give Other than that it failed.

The pictures seem to fail to load, so I don't know if you can create workspace through portal,, can you re-upload pictures again?

It seems that you don't have write permission on your azure subscription, so model builder fails to create resourcegroup and ml workspace under your picked subscriptions. Could you double check if you have write permission to you azure subscription?

Regards

dunion commented 4 years ago

How do I know? I have an MSDN Enterprise/Universal subscription that should include basically everything. The whole problem is that I can't create this workspace it always fails.

What do I look for on my azure subscription?

Log on to your Azure portal(portal.azure.com) -> select subscription and go to overview page(it should be the same subscription you use to create your workspace in ModelBuilder) -> check my role

For example, this is my VS enterprise subscription, which is Admin. image

Make sure your role is higher than reader. Or you won't be able to create any Azure resources (like workspace) under that subscription.

And if your role is higher than reader, you could try creating Workspace on Azure portal, simply search Machine Learning and add that service. image

If you can't create that on Azure portal, then you can't create it in VS either. Please let me know the error info and I will take a look

I hope this can solve your questions, let me know if it fails again.

My screen

[cid:image002.png@01D62DFA.15A495B0]

Note that I haven’t used this much though it says I have $117 dollars left. Not sure what that is referring to since so far I haven’t gotten anything working. But meanwhile I will try in a little while creating hit here the article I was following was about using visual studio hopefully to make my life easier 😊

I am very new to Azure cloud use, but a fairly long time desktop and server and embedded developer. But I want to learn this new stuff 😊

Thanks, I’ll let you know.

I tried again but was never able to get this to work, by the way. So totally blocked at this point.

I guess the cloud azure stuff still has some major bug in the dev systems?

It is still 100% reproducable. When workspace creation fails in the process, it hangs VS instance too =)
