I created a .Net MAUI class library project using the Visual Studio template that targets iOS, Android & Windows on .Net 6.0. All other version numbers (minimum, target, etc.) have been left at default settings. The purpose of the project is to produce a NuGet package.
The class library makes use of the
Preferencesclass in theMicrosoft.Maui.Storagenamespace to access user preferences on each of the three aforementioned target platforms. The code works fine locally, in that it compiles without error and all unit tests for the code pass. It should be noted for the sake of clarity that thePreferences-related code is isolated in a service that is not tested directly. The tests only verify the use of the service by the consuming code.The problem is that now I've set up a CI build pipeline in Azure DevOps, I'm getting the following error when it attempts to run a
nuget restorecommand. The version of NuGet used is 5.8.0. The solution includes a nuget.config file that limits the package sources used to the public nuget.org feed and enables automatic package restore.The project on which the build is failing includes the following, automatically added, NuGet packages:
The problem seems to be related to the Microsoft.Maui.Dependencies package, which I see in its dependencies includes a whole bunch of Xamarin. packages for the
net6.0-android31.0target. None of the other supported build targets for this package include any Xamarin. packages. I tried adding themonoandroid90target mentioned in the error message to theTargetFrameworksproperty of the project file but this did not resolve the problem, neither did changing the minimum Android version in the project settings to a newer version.I see there is a Microsoft.Maui.Essentials NuGet package, currently in preview for .Net 8.0, that minimizes (but doesn't completely eliminate) those Xamarin.* package dependencies for the Android platform target. I haven't tried using it in this case, but as I'm wanting to target .Net 6.0 for now with this project, won't help anyway.
As we don't seem to have any control over those Microsoft.Maui.* packages that get automatically included, and given I've left most of the default settings from the class library template alone, I don't understand why this error is occurring. The service that uses the
Preferencesclass is currently "shared" code (i.e. not under thePlatformsfolder); does it need to be platform-specific? Is there a "lighter-weight" way to make use of the essentials features (like the aforementioned Microsoft.Maui.Essentials package) so I don't have to drag in a heap of dependencies I don't need?
