Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Visual Studio Code in a folder with a *.sln file
  2. Wait for the C# extension to initialize

Expected behavior

The C# extension should load the projects and provide all features.

Actual behavior

The C# extension reports "Some projects have trouble loading. Please review the output for more details." And the following is reported in the "OmniSharp Log":

@chuck-flowers I suspect that your installation of Build Tools does not include ".NET Core Build tools", so you are missing some NuGet assemblies. Can you open the installer and confirm that you have the box indicated in red checked? There are a couple of bugs on GitHub that track including those files even if the .NET Core Build tools aren't installed: https://github.com/NuGet/Home/issues/7390 https://github.com/Microsoft/msbuild/issues/3852

I was in the process of reinstalling my .NET Core Tools while I was waiting on a reply. I'll confirm that the above tools are installed and let you know if the issue is resolved.

1.17.0 Worked well when I launch it from Developer Command Prompt for VS 2017.

The updated version 1.17.1 breaks while loading the project with the very same error @chuck-flowers mentioned above. I reverted back to 1.17.0.

I uninstalled all .net core sdks and then reinstalled the specified option from the Visual Studio Installer and I'm still seeing the same issue

I have this issue. Visual Studio is not installed, only VS Code and the new dotnet core 2.2 SDK. I found that reverting to 1.17.0 of the extension resolves the issue.

Thanks for the tip. The old version of the extension working with the newest SDK seems to indicate it's a bug in the extension itself.

@chuck-flowers In terms of changes to Omnisharp (the component responsible for intellisense, etc), the only change between 1.17.0 and 1.17.1 is a fix to make sure we discover MSBuild from your installed Visual Studio: (https://github.com/OmniSharp/omnisharp-roslyn/compare/v1.32.7...v1.32.8). Were you ever able to determine the answer to my question in https://github.com/OmniSharp/omnisharp-vscode/issues/2666#issuecomment-440349149 ?

Since opening this ticket I have done the following:

  1. Uninstalled all .NET Core SDKs using the Windows Programs and Features Menu
  2. Uninstalled the .NET Core cross-platform development workload through the Visual Studio Installer
  3. Reinstalled the .NET Core cross-platform development workload using the Visual Studio Installer.

The screenshot of your installer calls the workload .NET Core build tools but I believe this is analogous to my .NET Core cross-platform development workload. I can confirm this workload is checked for me and I'm still having the issue I initially reported.
