Craft 5 Support #128

Hi, I love Spoon and I wonder if there will be support for Craft 5 soon :)

Hi @samuelreichor, thanks for asking! I've actually been meaning to write a blog post about it. 🙂

Since Craft 5 has basically reinvented the Matrix field and underlying Entries architecture, Spoon is no longer necessary and is being retired. With such a massive change to Craft core, we'd need to basically rewrite Spoon from the ground up.

The new Matrix field in Craft 5 replicates most of the functionality that Spoon provides, so it doesn't quite make sense to port it over. If there's a feature from Spoon which you are greatly missing, I'd recommend you file a feature request in Craft core.

As much as we all love Spoon, it's worth remembering that it's always served as a crutch for some of the things a Matrix field couldn't do naturally. With those features now becoming a reality in Craft core, we're considering it a good thing that Spoon can finally be retired.

PS - The Craft 4 version of Spoon will continue to be supported until Craft 6 is released.
