Change in Feature Collection UI is Counterintuitive #100

Open ethanduke opened 6 years ago

ethanduke commented 6 years ago

Issue

Previous UI allowed addition of features by touch command on the specific map location and did not have static crosshairs. It was similar to ArcMap and AGOL.

Expected Behavior

In field users should be able to collect a feature at any point in the viewable area without the need to pan and position the location beneath the crosshairs.

Map and Credentials

Steps to Reproduce / Workflow

We typically collect bird data as line-transects (400m) are walked or during stationary/timed point counts. Birds are mapped, typically within 200m of the observer as they walk along the transect. We use subtypes of bird guilds for quick access and classification of many species. Time and speed are crucial as optimal survey windows for birds on our surveys are typically for only 4 hours after sunrise.

Device Information

Maps and Features provided are for holistic purposes and aren't necessary for replication. See attached screenshot and video.

@ethanduke For point feature, have you tried Collect here capabilities. You can use the following workflow:

What do you think of "Collect here"?

Also can you describe the workflow you tried to achieve?

Hi, @miaogeng,

I was able to achieve more desirable results using the workflow you pointed out. Thank you. Thanks too, for your and Kevin's help a while back with a separate issue.

Collect here is a potential workflow option. I will test on a Tablet (currently testing on iPhone). How do I request access run CollectorAurora / testflight on an additional/alternate device?

I've updated the issue comment above with a description of the workflow. Please let me know if you need further descriptions.

Hi, the 'Collect Here' capability does appear more accurate although it does introduce an extra click so perhaps a little slower in the field for us. In general we use GPS to capture points so this is not so important at this stage.
