running exiftool requires temporary files to be created. Introduce a command line switch/env variable/... to let callers explicitly specify the directory to be used for temporary files

Setting should be optional if no setting and no environment setting given then process warning and use working directory

make sure deleteAfterExit is in use for temporary files and directories remove temporary files created by exiftool
