Alt/Shift keys do not work on Droid #472

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to host.
2. Open physical keyboard (happens to me on both Droid and Droid 2 Global)
3. Try to press a special key such as alt/shift (for numbers/symols)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should prepare for a special input. Instead it behaves as if nothing has
happened.

What version of the product are you using (you can see this by using Menu
-> About in the Host List)?
1.7.1 (most recent market version)

What type of system are you trying to connect to?
Linux host via ssh+key auth.

If you are able to connect, what is the output of "echo $TERM", "uname -a",
and any other relevant information on the host?
Can't execute any of those commands without my special keys!

Please provide any additional information below.
It seems to happen on and off. Sometimes when I connect it works fine, others
times it does not.

I use screen+irssi, but the issue happens even without me executing any
commands.

If I try irssiconnectbot fork, the same issue happens, HOWEVER I can type my
special symbols because irssiCB has an option to type in an Android-provided
text dialogue then send to term.

This happens to me on my Droid sometimes, but closing and then opening the
hardware keyboard fixes it.
