If this is the problem that I think it is, it's a bug with Swype that was fixed
in the latest Swype Beta release. Please ignore me if you aren't actually using
Swype, of course :p

Thanks for your response. I use a new Samsung Galaxy S2 (D710) phone with Swype
v 3.8.86.28894.28931.2423.SPH_D710
I'm trying to type in the word ping, and right when I type the letter n it
turns the i of ping capital. That nullifies the command, since the linux
machine I've logged into has case sensitivity on commands.
I don't believe that this version of Swype is beta. There's also no apparent
firmware upgrade for my device. Any other ideas of why the i gets auto
capitalized?
Thank you! Keith

Further to my previous comment, this problem was fixed in the latest beta
version of Swype - v3.25. From their changelog
(http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?4354-Swype-v3.25-featuring-Gestures-Dicti
onary-Management-amp-Swype-Connect): "Fixed a bug in English where 'i' would
incorrectly auto-capitalize in certain apps (inputType=TYPE_NULL, e.g. terminal
emulators)".
Unfortunately, this only applies to people who have installed Swype themselves
(as part of the Swype Beta programme). Some phone manufacturers or networks
pre-install Swype, and I believe that in those cases you can't upgrade to later
versions.

Okay. Thanks again for responding. That was for version 2.3.4 and I have
version 3.8.86... I would've thought that issue is no longer a problem so far
from that report. I've turned off auto-capitalization and disabled Swype as
much as I could and it still happens.
Oh well...

But you're right. I see it does the same capitalization with another telnet
app. Weird.

Sorry, last email message:
I found a workaround is to change my Swype language to Spanish. Then I can type
I in capital.
