According to export(5),

After reading /etc/exports exportfs reads files in the /etc/exports.d directory as extra export tables. […] The format for extra export tables is the same as /etc/exports.

WalT should probably prefer editing /etc/exports.d/walt.exports instead of working on /etc/exports, which may be used by another service.
