This one is interesting.
The interpretation of "between four” could either be 2 2 or 1 2 1, depending upon what is between them. Putting a saltier between 4 gets a 1 2 1, but swords in saltire get a 2 2 arrangement.
Handling decisions involving objects in saltire the way that saltires themselves are handled, but I suspect that’s just one special case I noticed. There is perhaps a more general rule about objects “in X” the way that X itself is handled.
Here’s the example that I ran across:
Sable, two swords in saltire argent between four fleurs-de-lis or.
Contact Form: Message: I forget if I reported that "X in saltire between four Y" should layout the 4 Ys as 1 2 1, not 2 2. Specifically: sable, two swords in saltire, proper between four fleurs-de-lis or, within a bordure of the second should be arranged thus: https://armorial.library.utoronto.ca/stamps/IBAR008_s1
Also things like argent a pale or between 2 roundels vert
There are lots of possible combinations here (N charges between 2 or more bars, bends, chevonrs, etc) which is a lot of work to do. You can simulate this with a specific position (possibly aided by artist hints) so I'm not going to spend the time on this, sorry.
Placement for one (or more?) charges "between two bars", as in "between two bars gules a lion or"
