For example First few lines of this document has links to

Our XML / HTML can also have links to such items. This will improve greater interconnectedness between various tools.

Annotations mean your text about what are the benefits of each of the links. Just a link will not help much. Your opinion is valuable.

1,2,3 are traditional commentaries on roots. 4,5,6 are links which give various declensions of verb forms.

They give the reader further details if he wants to.
