RetroBar hates fullscreen applications #654

First off, this is incredible software, it's the only way I've found to accurately replicate the XP taskbar. There's one major issue for me that makes it nearly unusable though, unfortunately. Launching a fullscreen program while RetroBar is running causes several issues depending on the game/application. What usually happens is retrobar stays ontop of the game as it opens in the background, however sometimes the game will switch to windowed/non-exlusive fullscreen. Most of the time also, the hoverover text for the start button will appear for no reason when opening a game.

Closing retrobar solves these issues.

Could you please provide some examples of applications that cause this behavior? Preferably some that I may freely obtain :)

Sure! Kodi is one example. It loads ontop of RetroBar as it should at first, but opening a video will cause RetroBar to become focused (space opens the start menu instead of pausing Kodi, which is now behind RetroBar). Most games that use DirectX seem to also have the same issue, where as I've had better luck with Vulkan applications like Yuzu. Kodi is the easiest way to reliably replicate the issue on my end though.

Thanks! I just tried playing some videos in Kodi and am not seeing this behavior. What settings are you using for playback within Kodi, and what settings do you have set in RetroBar?

Just wanted to say I'm having this issue as well. Any application that goes full screen, retro will still show above it. Any application. Browser, video games, video players, etc.

opening old RPG maker 2003 games (480p fullscreen by default, have to press a key to exit to windowed) makes the taskbar flip out for a good few seconds
