get rid of masks entirely #59

it's getting more and more annoying dealing with masking everything. It would be awfully nice if these just worked. I'm already using image magick to validate images on the server - I should just switch to use it to mask the images properly, too.

This is more or less closed in 0d3bf99. It's still a little blurry - especially when the image is big in a 'focus' view - but it's okay.
