This thread will be used to discuss things such as what type of governance structure Drift will have, how does someone contribute and be made a maintainer of the project, where will communication be made, how do decisions get made, etc.

A few things that are not up for discussion are

  1. I want this to be a not for profit. I do not see any reason to try and make money off of this, I think it would be best to keep the code open source and if we want to roll out our own infra we can keep that open source and be transparent about pricing and let people roll their own infra if they want to keep their data.
  2. The governance will be open , in contrast of closed. All decisions and conversations about things will be made public in some way or another.

The org structure should be a republic style governance. The people with the most time and experience with this should be the ones who make the decisions. The people making the decisions at the end of the day will be the maintainers. As more people contribute and the code grows, there will be a need for more maintainers, which could be chosen by the current maintainers. Currently I will start out as the maintainer since this has been something I have been thinking about for about 1 and a half years.
