[x] Have the possibility to upload a 'cover' picture for your blog article
[ ] Have the possibility to upload pictures in the text of your article

Nice to have:

[ ] The possibility to create and upload a gallery
[ ] A photo gallery page that displays all uploaded pictures

Maybe we can use 'Cloudinary'?

Yeah, if it has a free tier for us to use then I think that would be fine. Can we then also use it for making image galleries and so on?

Cloudinary seems to be not a great solution. It's only free for 3 users on 1 account up to 25GB.

Maybe google photos library api might be a solution. It seems you won't have to pay extra for that. And it would be a very nice solution as it seems we can upload to google photos directly.
