Planner- default grid when no map provider available #585

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Can there be a simple grid added to the mission planner in case one does not
wish to use a any map like google /bing or any other maps?.

That would be very helpful instead of having a white screen when no maps are
selected.

This issue should be called "Planner- default grid when no map provider
available" or something like that

Michael raises a good point - you know you can cache map tiles ahead of time -
so even in the field if you have no interent you can still have the map, right?

If you really don't want the map and want a grid instead, perhaps explain the
reasoning in order to best understand how this enhancement should work - i.e do
you need distance scales?

Hi, Well the idea behind this was having no internet I know you can cache the
map and use it in the field but I thought with the option of "No Provider" it
would be better to have a grid instead of just a blank white canvas (just a
thought) when you don't want to cache the map, know the area around you, have a
camera feed and just want to go ahead and fly.

It would just be a grid with an origin ( this can be the plane itself) so the
world orients around it(Heading up rather than north up). Scaling distances
would be great and would allow you to see different zoom levels without the map.

OK this is now two enhancements, and a separate one should be raised

1) Option to show generic grid when instead of on-line map provider

2) UAV Point of view presentation of map
