I think it might be OK to leave them out. Can you provide a citation for this statement, please?

Citing studies that show that complex proxies fail, as well as citing the papers that introduce those proxies, will be fine. Is CAS just such a proxy?
Done - but should we add a few lines about systems of morphological proxies like CAS?
