They're currently scattered throughout different methods and ipynbs--so that we're clear about what we're doing, these should all be placed in a method (make_om10_cuts() and make_reference_cuts(), maybe?)

The idea was to leave this to the select method. Probably what we need is a notebook just walking through this process, for a selection of surveys. PS1 vs DES vs LSST would be interesting, for example.
