[Question] Fate of non-WebExt versions? #31

Hi there,

With the advent of Firefox rejecting all non-WebExtensions versions past FF57, as well as most of your effort these days going into the webextension branch, I have to ask: what is the fate of the non-WebExtension version of this add-on?

Currently, in addition to Firefox this add-on is compatible with Thunderbird, SeaMonkey and Pale Moon. Will support for these be dropped, or will the XUL-based version be continued in some form?

Here's our plan. The web extension version is being released this week, along with a bootstrap version. I think we have to use different version numbers, so the 3 series will be the bootstrap and the 4 series the web extension. The XUL-only version will remain as-is, and be the 2 series. I still need to work out how the addons site deals with XUL, BS, and WebX versioning. How does this approach sound? Thanks!

Sounds good to me, thanks for the confirmation. I'm not sure that AMO deals with the different types in different ways, though; if you release 4.x, it will supersede 3.x, unless one of those is using the development branch on AMO.

Going forward, if this becomes an issue, please be advised the Pale Moon Add-ons Site is able to host any Pale Moon-compatible (both XUL and Bootstrap) add-ons. If this ever becomes of interest (even if not at the moment, but in future), feel free to let me know and I can set you up.

Just as an FYI: We now have a self-service panel, over here: https://addons.palemoon.org/panel. With this you can upload add-ons for Pale Moon, Basilisk and/or Interlink (the latter two use the Firefox and Thunderbird GUIDs respectively). If ever it's of interest, uploading an add-on to the panel will make it show on whichever add-ons site it's relevant for. All of these applications only support XUL extensions, not WebExtensions.
