Font-awesome icons break in IE versions lower than 9 #30

I was just messing around with IE compatibility for my site and I came to a realization that there seems to be a problem with IE8 and below where the font awesome icons do not show up.

I did also file an issue with font-awesome as that seems to be the root of the problem, I just wanted to warn you of this as well: https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/issues/827

Thanks for the heads up. I don't test in various IEs as much as I should (though the recent release of testing VMs at modern.ie should help).

The long term plan (at the moment) is to convert Moodle's SVG icons into an icon font, possibly merging it with font-awesome to some degree, so it'll be good to see how this bug turns out.
