Let user adjust brightness when recording

Had several situations where I wanted to capture a scene like it was but I couldn't since the brightness was not adjustable.

Could you describe the use case further? An example maybe?

I have the feeling that an exposure bias for the whole recording won't cut it.

When I was recording a sunset the rest of the scene was way to bright so I couldn't capture the sunset itself.

No idea if it will be better when users control exposure themselves. Would rather focus on working automatic exposure compensation. Sunsets are hard either way.
