I am going to have to think on that. Would a simple web based Post UI work as an alternative?
@dshanske isn't there a function in mf2_s that does something like that? Maps formats to kinds?
There is a function in Post Kinds that maps kinds to formats. This is reverse
I guess I was thinking of this function in mf2_s
@dshanske How does the function that maps kinds to formats work? Is that automatic? Perhaps it would achieve the same result, in effect?
@dshanske and @miklb - I was thinking about this possible feature again over the last few days, and what might be an option is to have a UI in the Post Kinds config settings for the plugin where we could assign WordPress post formats to specific Post Kids.
I'm not sure if this is possible to implement, but perhaps something along these lines:
The reason why I started thinking about this is because if I'm posting to my blog from the WordPress.com mobile app, or something like MarsEdit, I only have the option of selecting a WordPress post format. I don't have access to the Post Kinds interface in the desktop app or WordPress.com dashboard in the browser.
Of course, the only place I have access to the Response Properties fields in WP Admin
.
I am working on a major revamp of the plugin that will support this better in the backend.
Have you tried Indigenous and Micropub?
@dshanske I've installed Micropub, although I'm still learning what I can do with it. I haven't tried Indigenous, though. I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.
One of the challenges with the Post Kinds plugin is that the mobile WordPress app doesn't seem to support the option to choose Post Kinds for mobile posts. It would be helpful to enable a degree of automation to this process as follows:
Standard
toArticle
,Audio
toAudio
, and so on. Granted this would only work for the dozen or so formats that WP supports but it could be a good compromise for users who only use a subset of the IndieWeb Post Kinds.
