Observation from the meeting with @mmmmtoasty19 on May 6.

Edits to the graphs:

  1. Convert population scale to millions

Observations

  1. Most of the population growth in this age group occurs between 2010 and 2011

    • by how much? ( ~ 50,000)
    • what specific age groups contributes the most?
    • What specific race?
  2. From 2006 to 2017 suicide among 10-24-year-olds was rising at the rate of 7.8 deaths per year

  3. During the same time, the rate of suicide per 100,000 increase about .2 per year.

    • or 2 persons per 1 million
    • Every year the 2 more person out of a million die ( 55 to 87) ( IMPOROVE LANGAUGE!)
    • 3 more people per 100,000 started commiting suicide
    • In 2006 one out of every 17.5K youth was commiting suicide, in 2017 one in 12K youth was ending their life
  4. Most the population growth could be attributed to 20-24 group:

    • 20-24 group increased on average by 12,5K per year from X1 in 2006 to X2 in 2017
    • younger groups are actually witnessed negative growth: -2.7K per year for 10-14 and - 3.0 K per year for 15-19
    • Despite negative population growth, both younger groups exhibite increase in suicide rate
    • 10-14: 293K to 67K ( 76% pool shrink)
    • 15-19: 18K to 11K ( 36% )
    • 20-24: 9K to 7K ( 20 %)
  5. 10-14 groups seems to be the biggest story

    • Cyberbullying?
    • Social media?
    • High profile suicides
    • Display of suicide in TV/movies?
  6. Yearly breakdown bar graphs do not appear effective in describing the trends in suicide means. We need to re-design the graph so we can compare the means head-to-head, both in term of counts and rates ( and one out of?)

  7. There appears to be three major suicide means for this age group: guns, hanging, other. We need a graph that defends the decision to collapse everying else besides guns and hanging into a single category.

@andkov Please view my latest commit (I Forgot to add the issue tag in commit)

Please note, I made a mistake as I didn't pull changes from our discussion into script prior to making changes. I ended up deleting the changes we made during discussion but think I have everything back to were we expected.
