Black Screen Lock-Up when exiting Alien Syndrome and other ROMs #29

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. From command line run "mame aliensyn"
2. Play game
3. Hit escape key to exit MAME

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to be taken back to the command line. However, the entire screen goes
black, and keyboard is not responsive. I think ssh still works so a clean
reboot can be achieved be logging in remotely, but other than that one must cut
the power off which may corrupt the OS.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest MAME4ALL on Raspberry Pi from NOOBS_v1_2_1 install.

Please provide any additional information below.
I have tried with and without recommended config.txt settings. Very
reproducible problem. Happens on many other ROMS, too. I think that one time
it happened that I was logged in remotely, so I was able to kill the hung MAME
process during the black frozen screen, but I was still not able to get back to
the command line.

aliensyn does crash MAME4ALL on exit, nothing can be done about this as it's
crashing the MAME engine. Some games do have this problem but most do not.
Please list which other ones are causing the problem.

Sorry, I thought that the MAME engine code is what you've been editing to get
it to run on the Pi. I guess you're leaving it as is. Thanks for clearing
that up for me. Keep up the good work! You may close this ticket.

Also, I just realized that using -nodrz80_snd prevents the problem I described.
I was re-reading your docs when I discovered I had not noticed that option
before. Thanks!

That's great news, which other ones does this occur on? I can easily update the
code to switch off the drz80_snd for those.

Sorry, I don't recall which other ROMs had that issue. I've now made the
-nodrz80_snd option permanent in my startup script, so I'm not likely to
discover any more.

"-nodrz80_snd" from the frontend? I ve got to execute from command line but,
what from the guy?

Thanks in advance
