Im not seeing a problem.

thatdavidtaylor commented 4 weeks ago

Huh, OK. I guess for some reason, it wasn't opening or working on my end specifically. I tried testing it in Chrome, and then in VLC, to no avail. Am I required to post a screenshot of the issue I'm facing?

dtankdempse commented 4 weeks ago

You can post one and it will help me see the problem better.

Sure thing.

Here is the problem I received in Chrome:

fnc-chrome-issue

And in VLC:

fnc-vlc-issue

Also, the log in VLC:

Hopefully this helps you.

Are you using a VPN?

Potential Causes of Network Timeout for a Website URL (Single User Issue)

A network timeout for a website URL reported by a single user could be caused by several potential issues. Here are some common reasons:

  1. Local Network Issues: The user's internet connection might be experiencing problems, such as weak Wi-Fi, high network latency, or intermittent connectivity.

  2. ISP Restrictions: The user's Internet Service Provider (ISP) might be blocking or throttling access to the specific URL or domain.

  3. DNS Problems: The user’s device or network may be using a problematic DNS server that cannot resolve the domain properly. This could result in a failed or slow lookup, causing a timeout.

  4. Firewall or Security Software: Local security software or firewall settings on the user’s computer may be blocking the connection. Certain antivirus programs or firewalls may mistakenly identify the URL as suspicious.

  5. Browser Issues: The user's browser might have issues, such as outdated extensions, corrupted cache, or cookies that prevent the page from loading correctly.

  6. Device-Specific Problem: The user's device might have specific settings or issues that are interfering with the connection. Trying from a different device on the same network could help narrow this down.

  7. IP Blocking or Rate Limiting: The website's server might be blocking the user’s IP address due to rate limiting or other access control rules. This can happen if the user made too many requests in a short period of time.

  8. Proxy or VPN Issues: If the user is accessing the website through a VPN or proxy, there might be issues with that service, such as slow or unreliable servers, which could lead to timeouts.

  9. Geolocation Restrictions: The website might have geolocation-based access restrictions. If the user is in a restricted region, they might experience timeouts or connection failures.

  10. Browser Cache or Cookies: Corrupt or outdated cookies and cache can cause problems with loading certain URLs. Clearing the browser’s cache and cookies might resolve the issue.

  11. Router Issues: The user's router might be experiencing issues or have settings that are interfering with access to certain domains (e.g., parental controls or security features).

Troubleshooting Suggestions

To troubleshoot the problem, you could suggest the following steps:

  1. Clear the browser's cache and cookies.
  2. Try a different browser or device.
  3. Restart the router.
  4. Flush the DNS cache (e.g., ipconfig /flushdns on Windows).
  5. Switch to a different DNS provider, such as Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare's DNS (1.1.1.1).
  6. Disable any VPNs, proxies, or security software temporarily to check if they are causing the issue.

If other users are not facing the issue, it's likely specific to the user's environment rather than a server or website configuration problem.
