Firefox Mobile - Mark as Android Compatible #1146

Closed duplaja closed 3 weeks ago

duplaja commented 8 months ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Firefox just opened up browser extensions on mobile to any that are on addons.mozilla.org (which WebToEpub is) that are marked as Android compatible (which it is not). I'd love to be able to download epubs on the go.

Describe the solution you'd like Unless it is non-functional, I'd like this plugin marked on addons.mozilla.org as Android compatible

Describe alternatives you've considered I've been using the tool on my desktop, and then having to transfer it over.

Additional context https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2023/11/28/open-extensions-on-firefox-for-android-debut-december-14-but-you-can-get-a-sneak-peek-today/

The last time I checked, it was not Android compatible.

duplaja commented 8 months ago

Thank you. I've had luck using it with other mobile browsers (Kiwi Browser, chromium based) with minor issues only

duplaja commented 8 months ago

I've successfully installed it in FireFox beta, using the workaround here: https://www.androidpolice.com/install-add-on-extension-mozilla-firefox-android/

I'll do that for now, but it does seem to be compatible, as far as my limited testing at least.

dteviot commented 8 months ago

@duplaja I'll take your word for it and mark the next update as working with Android.

dteviot commented 7 months ago

@duplaja

Mozilla requires me to confirm that I've tested extension on Android before it will allow me to mark it as working on Android. And I haven't personally tested it.

However, at it's an open source project, you could submit latest build to them, under your name

duplaja commented 7 months ago

Ahh, fair enough. I'm able to use it in Firefox beta via the list workaround, so I'll just keep doing that that.

dteviot commented 7 months ago

Want to think about this some more. If you can verify the latest build in Mozilla store works on Android, I can bump the number and re-submit.

grenskul commented 4 months ago

I have also been using this with android ever since the extensions became available in Firefox nightly and it always worked fine.

dteviot commented 4 months ago

@kevin01523 @grenskul Which build were you using?

Thanks

@kevin01523 @grenskul Which build were you using?

  • The "in development" build from Google Drive (if so, when did you download it)

Set up a Firefox account to sync your bookmarks, passwords, open tabs, and other data on any device with the Firefox browser. Sign up for the Add-ons website (AMO) with the same Firefox account. When accessing the add-on website in Firefox on PC, you’ll be taken to the list of recommended extensions. Here you’ll notice that there’s no option to install any of the desktop-compatible add-ons on your Android device.

To go around this limitation, we’ll need to create a collection of your favorite add-ons on your PC and then import it into the Android version.

Create a Firefox Add-on Collection Head to the Firefox add-ons website and sign in with your Firefox account. Click your username in the screen’s upper-right corner and then “View My Collections.” View My Collection Firefox Addons Website Click “Create Collection.” Create A Collection Addon Website Type in the name and brief description of the collection. Ideally, you should set a name with no numbers or spaces between them. Or, you can replace the space with a dash. “Custom URL” is a special link to that collection. Note: All collections are public and can be viewed by anyone.

add a collection name and description Take note of the collection name and eight-digit number or ID shown in the address bar of the collection URL page. For example, this collection’s name is “Favorites,” and the eight-digit unique ID is “13590312.” Note The Collection Unique Number And Name Firefox Good to know: Want to enjoy vertical tabs in your Firefox browser? Here’s how to switch from the classical look.

Enable Custom Add-on Collections in Firefox for Android Tap the Menu button and then “Settings.” Select Settings Firefox Beta Scroll down and tap “About Firefox Beta.” Tap About Firefox Beta Tap on the Firefox logo five times. It will display a message that says, “Debug Menu Enabled.” Tap The Firefox Logo Five Times When you return to the Settings screen, you’ll see a new option under the “Advanced” section called “Custom Add-on collection.” New Option Custom Addon Collection Firefox Beta In the pop-up that appears enter “Collection Owner” (i.e., eight-digit unique ID) and “Collection name.” Type In The Collection Owner And Name Firefox Beta You’ll see a message “Add-on collection modified. Quitting the app to apply the changes.” The Firefox browser will close automatically. Open the browser again and tap on the menu button and then on the “Add-ons” option to see the extensions you’ve added to the collection via your PC. Here you can see the add-ons we’ve been using for many months. Custom Addon Collection Firefox Beta To install any extension, tap the “Plus (+)” button and then “Add.”

@kevin01523 Thanks. I'll probably be updating version in the stores in a few days. I'll set the Firefox mobile flag when I do.

dteviot commented 3 months ago

@kevin01523 @duplaja @grenskul

Updated version (0.0.0.159) is now available from Firefox stores, has been marked as compatible with Firefox for Android. Sorry for delay in update, needed to get Patreon working.
