Doesn't seem to be on roadmap for Github Pages either (shame) https://github.com/github/pages-gem/issues/93

At this point, I'm leaning toward just de-linking my tags and categories on the public site. It's still helpful to classify posts, but will use this meta-data to generate related posts in the footer (which is not dependent on the plugin) and leave it at that.
