slow/hangs on exit - Githubissues

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. run
2. use for a while
3. hit 'quit'

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect it to quit relatively quickly--certainly faster than it takes to
initialize and load up.... but it doesn't.  Sometimes hangs entirely

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

Implement some sort of timeout--if the server isn't responding to 'quit'
message, we don't really care, hey we tried.
