Siphon freezes on startup, takes 2 minutes to connect to SIP server #354

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When I start Syphon (2.2.0), it loads and than freeze (not responding to
any taping on the numbers or icons). After more than a minute it unfreeze
and finally reacts to the previous taps and after a little while change
status to "Connected" — so it takes Siphon very long time (2 minutes) to
get connected to the server (sipnet.ru) after startup. I tested it on home
WiFi connection.

Free version of iSip from App Store work fine - "State: Register
Successful" immediatly after startup — but it doesn't have g729 codec I
want to use on 3G network (haven't tried it yet though).

A detaled log of one Syphon startup in attachement. I wrote down the
timing: taping the program icon exactly at 02:48, connected status at 2:50
(plus several seconds).

iPhone with the latest firmware and blackra1n + cydia.

It's weird, because when we read the log file :
    01:03:12.775 : starting
    01:03:14.602 : sent register message (<2 seconds)
    01:03:14.800 : register ok (2 seconds)
    01:03:38.291 : calling to someone
    01:03:41.740 : error not found (<3 seconds)
    01:04:03.219 : calling to someone
    01:04:05.313 : error not found (2 seconds)
    01:04:11.146 : quit

The duration is one minute. Perhaps did you enable SIP over 3G and if the wifi
is not
enabled, Siphon ty ro use 3G connection. And to wake up 3G connexion, Siphon
try to
connect on google site by http.

Samuel, are you sure it's my log file you're reading? Mine starts with
02:48:35.075
and I didn't make any calls.

I made another one just in case. My actions:

A second after the time on the iPhone changes to 02:58 I tap the Siphon icon
and
start stopwatch on my other mobile. In two seconds the program loads and I tap
ABC
button. Nothing happends. 2 minutes and 4 seconds after I tapped the icon
Siphon
responds by opening virtual keyboard. About 5 seconds later status changes to
"Connected". I tap Done and close virtual keyboard. Several seconds later I
press
Home and Siphon closes.

"Siphon over EDGE/3G" is swithed off. WiFi is on and working perfectly.

And I've set googles' 8.8.8.8 as the dns server in Siphon configuration, so it
is
shown in the log: "Nameserver 8.8.8.8:53"

Siphon is in Russian if it matters. WiFi is working on my home adsl router and
I've
set port forwarding (4000 and 5060) to iPhone's ip adress (192.168.1.33) there.

Sorry, I read bad log file :-( I misled by Mac OS/firefox cache.
Which Siphon version do you use ?
Could you try to remove google dns server ?
Or to define google dns server in Iphone settings and not Siphon settings ?

Original comment by samuelv0...@gmail.com on 9 Jan 2010 at 11:34

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Google DNS server doesn't affect it. The problem remains.
I rebooted iPhone, cleared dns settings and then startes Siphon. Same 2 minutes
until Siphon reacts to tapping and connects.

I started the program about 15:16:(30-40 sec.). The first log file entry is
after
more than half a minute later, 15:17:13.567. "Request msg REGISTER" starts only
at
15:18:44.171.

I have no idea of your issue,
1/ Could you look cpy activity when you run Siphon ? Connect with ssh on your
iphone,
use 'top' tool and run Siphon from SpringBoard.

2/ could you try to disable backgrounder, 3G unrestrictor if you use it...
reboot and
re-try Siphon.

"Connect with ssh on your iphone, use 'top' tool and run Siphon from
SpringBoard"
Could you tell me what to install on iPhone and PC to do this?

I'll try disabling other programs from Cydia.

Uninstalled backgrounder, rebooted the phone — no effect.

I tried top. CPU seems to be 80% idle all the time.

'Top' taking about 7-8% permanently

Siphon takes 44% right after it's started, than 0 % for 33 seconds, than
constantly
changing from 0 to 3 %, 1-3% since it's connected.

Sometimes Springboard up to 15-20 %

Switched off WiFi to try to work on cellular EDGE:

Siphon responds to tapping right after it's loaded, but doesn't connect to
server at
all (I've waited for 10 minutes).

iSip still connects at once and works fine, even on EDGE.

I'll try looking trough the links, thanks.

Sorry, i forgot to turn Siphon over edge/3g on.

Like iSip, Siphon connects on EDGE at once. The same problem as the one in
issue 326

Tried instruction by Wolfgang.Kreuzpaintner issue 220:

- turn off wifi using SBSettings. Start-up Siphon --> no crash and shows "not
connected"
- turn on wifi using SBSettings. Siphon will now connect to the sip-provider
and can
be used normally.

It works. Siphon responds to tapping after load, connects as soon as WiFi is on
(Siphon over edge/3g turned off, so it doesn't try to connect on cellular).

I tried changing DNS IP in Siphon settings to my ADSL router (192.168.1.1),
OpenDNS
(208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) and Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4), as in issue
155, but
no luck.

Same 2 minutes 3 seconds before unfreeze (exactly 2:03 every time) and a second
more
to connect.

Oh my, I got it. I had to change DNS servers assigned to the clients in my
router,
and it totally worked.

I changed Primary and Secondary addresses in "DNS Servers Assigned by DHCP
Server"
in "DHCP setup" to Google's (from 0.0.0.0) and everything works fine now.

Anyway, iSip somehow worked even without it.
