Why is that inappropriate in a game with so much death and misery? I could understand if it had something to do with CP or rape or the likes..

I'd like to keep all joke names out of the game. Names are assigned randomly and there are definitely times when an immigrant's name shouldn't elicit a laugh, in any language.

Well, joke names are different. I'd leave a few as a tribute to real life, because there are such names. This could even be a gameplay element elevating the chance for the player to fail. "It's all part of the job, deal with it".

@dukope is the one to decide either way, but I suggest reporting only names that might be copyrighted, foul or explicit, since it's actually unacceptable.

• The name "Kira Argounova" is the protagonist in Ayn Rand's anticommunist book "We The Living"
• The name "Nidalee Hecar" is a reference to League of Legends characters "Nidalee" and “Hecarim"
• There are a few names of Finnish origin that end in -nen but have received the feminine slavic -a ending, like Joni Koistinen —> Joni Koistinena. This would never happen to actual names in Finland, and as a result, there are now two Finnish male-only names (Joni and Sakari) that appear as names for females in the game.

Should we report female-only names assigned to male entrants, and vice versa, then? I remember seeing a few, but I didn't pay attention to them since I thought this was normal, especially since it's not noted as a discrepancy.

It depends. In some cases it intentionally assigns a female name to a sorta-male-looking person (and vice versa). If you post a questionable name here and tell me which gender it should be then I can check the source files to make sure it's set to that.

Some more:

• Makise Kurisu is from Steins;Gate (http://steins-gate.wikia.com/wiki/Kurisu_Makise)
• Faye Hunter could be a reference to a bass player in the 1980s band Let's Active. She committed suicide in the summer of 2013.

These two Finnish names are masculine but they are used for females in the game:

• Tomi Haekkinevska (His last name is a strange combination of the Finnish name Häkkinen and the slavic-sounding -vska ending. It sounds a little odd.)
• Tommi Weseli

These five last names appear to be of Finnish origin, but they wouldn't actually ever take the -a ending even though the first names are feminine:

• Aino Mikkonena
• Anni Lukkonena
• Janna Korhonena
• Miia Ahonena
• Olga Mutanena

Can you suggest female, ok-sounding versions of these?

The "-en" -> "-ena" is entirely my fault. The name checking script automatically (and incorrectly) tries to correct the gender on these. It's necessary for some other endings, but not "en". Will they be ok if I just keep them as -en?

Yes, the -nen ending works for all of them.

If you change Haekkinevska to just Hakkinen, it should be fine. Weseli is fine as it is, but both first names need to be changed to something like Tiina, Tiia, or Tuula (or something else from here: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Finnish_given_names#T_2) or assigned to males instead of females.

In theory, Alexia is the female form. It is however virtually non-existent in Russian-speaking countries. A popular Ukrainian and Belarusian female name Olesia/Olesya/Alesia/Alesya is one possible form.

• "Tokiko Lorelei" is a combination of Tokiko and Mystia Lorelei, both from Touhou project

• Aleksander Ovechkin - similar to Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian ice hockey player who, among other things, played in Sochi
• Zuse Castor - from Tron
• Sonya Rostova - a character in War and Peace
• Laika Kruscheva - could be a combination of Laika the space dog and Nikita Khrushchev
• William Zeppeli - from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (http://jojo.wikia.com/wiki/William_Anthonio_Zeppeli)
• Clement Ishutin - a combination of Clement "Puppey" Ivanov and Danylo "Dendi" Ishutin, professional DOTA2 players

I think these five are generic enough to be unintended references, John Smith-style:

• Arin Hansonov - could be a reference to Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson
• Alexei Leonov, a Soviet cosmonaut who performed the first space walk
• Vicente Fernandez - a Mexican Grammy-winning singer and actor
• Alexi Rumonov - this is kinda far-fetched, but could be a reference to Alexei, the son of Russian Emperor Nicholas II, of house Romanov
• Alexandra Degtyarev - similar to Alexander Degtyarev from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
