Per a report from a Googler, when he updated a record at the google.co.jp 
people finder:

It would be very very nice to be able to input both english and japanese. The 
automatic translation from english to japanese in this case is quite strage, 
e.g. "They are fine" was translated to "they have been fined", etc. As far as I 
can tell, one doesn't have the option to input both languages, only one 
language, which is then translated to the other.
