can halo shapes and alignments be predicted using only halo catalogs? I suspect a graph approach could be used to model shapes and alignments that does not need a scale dependent measurement of the tidal field. @EiffL is working on a similar problem, but directly trying to predict galaxy alignments in MBII. It may be easier if only considered host haloes... satellites are complicated.
