Show Messages on All Monitors #45

Open cwarden opened 12 years ago

cwarden commented 12 years ago

It would be nice if there was an option to show messages on all monitors.

knopwob commented 12 years ago

This sounds like a nice feature, but sadly it's very unlikely that this gets added in the near future, because of the way things are implemented right now. Adding support for multiple windows would either mean a hacky mess or an almost rewrite.

But this feature request inspired the idea of Issue #46: Display the notifications on the focused monitor which might be a compromise.

I'll keep this open in case somebody else wants to express his/her interest in this feature, but again: don't get your hopes high that this will get implemented in the near future (or at all)

knopwob commented 11 years ago

I'm closing this since there seems to be low to no interest in this feature, this isn't possible with the current architecture and with follow modes there is an alternative present

cwarden commented 11 years ago

I've been happy with follow=keyboard

robbat2 commented 7 years ago

Did this ever change? I'd like some notifications to be shown on all monitors.

innateessence commented 7 years ago

As would I. I would love either solution. The monitor I'm looking at or all of them to notify me.

tsipinakis commented 7 years ago

There is some discussion about moving dunst to a multiple-window system in #344 and it may be worth looking into this feature a bit more.

egoldshtrom commented 6 years ago

+1

I use follow = keyboard, which is great, but I would love the notification to show up on all monitors.

PMunch commented 5 years ago

I agree that this would be a nice feature. So far I've gone with a full-width notification in order to be able to notice it out of the corner of my eye if I'm currently looking at another monitor than the one with focus.

prankousky commented 5 years ago

+1 I use full width notifications as well, but working with multiple monitors still makes it hard to notice them sometimes.

Phantas0s commented 5 years ago

I would love this feature as well. I miss many notifications since I have 3 screens.

follow = keyboard works fine and I dont think this feature will ever get implemented.

void-m4110c commented 4 years ago

Well if that's so, there are plenty of notification daemons out there. Who needs dunst? Desktop Notifications - Arch Linux

tsipinakis commented 4 years ago

I dont think this feature will ever get implemented.

It'll get implemented if someone (including me) steps up to actually implement it - it's an open source project after all :).

My time for working on new features, especially as complex as this, is limited but I'm still very active for reviewing PRs and helping contributors if they need guidance on how to work on something.

Will surely get implemented when we move to multiple windows
