Steps to reproduce:

Start a chat between person A and person B.
Deactivate person A's account.
Let person B refresh the page. Person A should now appear as "Unavailable person".
Activate person A's account. Do not refresh person B's page from this point on.
Let person A message person B. Person B will see messages from "Unavailable person".

Solution:

When a message is received from an unavailable person, the frontend should query the backend for that person's info and update the UI accordingly.
