finger along the keyboard area:

Wow, that's a lot of enthusiasm for the idea :-)

I'll take a look, it sounds nice but may cause conflicts with the way the 
keyboard currently handles long touches. For example, it needs to distinguish a 
small upwards cursor motion from a long-press intended to select an alternate 
character.

No promises yet, I'm currently very short on time, but I'd like to support this 
as an option.

It's because there was an article in the russian analog of TechCrunch 
(habrahabr.ru).
The second piece of success is simplicity and intuitiveness of these moves. 
Also - it will be a strong competitive advantage for your application.
