Registration confusion #201

I'm getting a lot of conflicting information on the registrations--people say they're signing up for soccer, then they select a futsal team. Worse, sometimes they seem to pick seasons that are in the future. Note in the two attachments that the registrations were created last spring. I'm not even sure who Richard Palmer is, and if he ever played last spring.

Is it possible that there are too many opportunities for the registrant to introduce errors?

Also, when I was looking up your registration, I noticed that the required "registration season" field was blank, as it is on everyone's registration. I am manually completing this field. Is this how it is designed? (I don't have a problem completing the field, but I want to be sure this is intentional.)

These aren't new issues. I'm just now noting them because I'm encountering them again as I put together a free agent soccer team.

Also, let me know if I need to re-upload these screenshots.

The registration process needs work, sure. We should think about whether we want to continue using the website for registration or if we'd rather switch to a 3rd party service (like EventBrite, which we used for the first season).

We currently use the registration process basically as a way to collect money. However it was originally designed so that we'd have registrations for every player that could then be used to track goals, cards, etc.

If we only want to use registrations to collect money, then I suggest we find a third party service and link to that rather than spending programming time to improve the website.

If we are going to work on improving the website, then it wouldn't be much work so that you select e.g. "Futsal division 1" and see only teams that are set up in division 1.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think the questions you raise should be answered before any resources are committed to working on the registration process.

We know more today than we did a couple years ago, so that will help guide any rethinking we'd like to do. I need to think about my role in this, too, and what I can to do better.

Finalizing soccer rosters now, and doing the schedule. Then on to futsal!
