Can you add to the readme that to build on Ubuntu (and other Debian based distros) you need to do the following:
sudo apt install -y libsigc++-2.0-dev libjsoncpp-dev
Raising the issue to update the README but also in case anyone is wondering how to do this if the README isn't update.
