Linux Mint 21 Vanessa Thank you for your work! DEB pack for WPS office creates directory /usr/share/fonts/wps-office, so the fonts must be downloaded at the folder named "wps-office" not wps-fonts". So your manual installation explanation gives an opportunity to correct this.
