I've just tried kmscon
and it looks very promissing.
However when switching from XOrg to it, because I have an external monitor and the resolution perhaps needs to change, it takes quite a few seconds. (This behavior doesn't manifest when switching from XOrg to the Linux normal VT.)
Is there perhaps a way to force kmscon
to use only a particular monitor, or a particular resolution?
Would like to know the answer too.
The FAQ mentions better multi-monitor handling as an advantage:
This is actually a reason why I am trying out kmscon, being able to change the output from an internal laptop panel to a external monitor. Is this possible, and yes, how can that be done?
